Viewing Canon RAW files, .cr2 extension, on WindowsXP
Today I started using the RAW format for photos. The normal XP thumbnail viewer didn't know what to make of the .cr2 extension, so I downloaded Google Picasa to edit them and the Microsoft extension to see them in Windows Explorer.
OK, the Microsoft viewer didn't work, but Picasa works as an editor. I downloaded codecs from www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/ to see the .CR2 images in Windows Explorer. It didn't work at first. I had to go to "Control Panel/Add Remove Programs" and remove "Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP Version 1.0 (Build 50) ". Now after 60 minutes and $15 I can see Cannon Rebel RAW files in Windows Explorer. Is this easier on the Mac?
